Quilotoa, the heart of the Ecuadorian Andes. This turquoise salty water crater lake was recognized as one of the 10 most beautiful lakes around the world. Quilotoa Loop also known as Quilotoa Crater Lake or Lagoon is located 169 km, (106 miles) south of Quito in a 3-hour journey on the Panamerican South.
The Quilotoa Loop Day Trip, is just fascinating, on the mountainsides, we ´ll be able to see a range of green colors due to the different crops that local farmers work on every day. Other highlights of this trip are the blue skies and/or clouds that will bring a dramatic touch to the views, and surrounding landscapes. As we pass the avenue of the volcanoes it is likely to see many mountains an volcanoes, like the snow-capped Cotopaxi volcano, Rumiñahui, Pasochoa, Corazon, North and South Antisana just to name a few. Also, we will pass through different communities, mostly indigenous and see their agricultural techniques, habits, and way of living. On the way, there will be two or three stops to take pictures, stretch legs or get snacks.
Upon arrival to the Quilotoa Loop, there are options like, walk down into the crater lake and rent a kayak or stay by the watching deck at the top of the crater walls and enjoy the spectacular view, rent a bike, or take a walk around the community.
