Papallacta hot springs, one with nature!
In Papallacta you will find yourself being one with nature, Papallacta hotsprings are a gift from mother earth with healing properties for travelers who visit this unique spot in Ecuador. Papallacta is a resort which has been designed for you to enjoy its water in different pools and different temperatures, from super hot to extremely cold water, known as the polar pool, the idea of this is that you deep in the water temperature of your preference and enjoy your time. The Papallacta area is located towards the east of Quito, for a Papallacta day tour from Quito, the driving time is approximately only one hour and forty five minutes, a lovely drive once you reach the country side, you will go across the eastern Andean mountain range. Ecosystems of Papallacta
The Papallacta hotsprings are located at an elevation of 3300 m.s.n.m. But to get to Papallacta on our drive we will go across a much higher area and ecosystem, called Paramo (moorlands), in fact, we will reach a Superparamo at 4500 msnm, this is an area where you are able to literaly touch the sky, and reach the continental divider as well. Meaning we will drive to the highest point of the highway, between the highlands and the Amazon lowlands.
Páramo or moorlands:
The Páramo is the ecosystem of the regions above the continuous forest line, yet below the permanent snowline. It is considered a high mountain biome with vegetation composed mainly of, shrubs and low grasses, pampa grasses, dwarflike forest.
Then the Paramo in the Ecuadorian region is divided into four sub ecosystems, for a better understanding of this ecosystem it is compared to an alpine tundra.

This tiny town of Papallacta stands out for its thermal waters that emerges from the caldera of an extinct volcano.
On a day trip from Quito to Papallacta you will go across the eastern mountain range of Ecuador which at the same time is part of the Andes and, feel the good vibe of its beautiful mountains that form the andean landscapes on both sides of the road that leads us to this unique ecosystem called the Paramo, which one of its main characteristics is a dwaft forest, covered by a green carpet that acts as a water reservour and from where Quito gets its clean drinking water. In addition to that, this drive surrounds the Cayambe Coca National Park and the Papallacta hotsprings, are located right at the edge of this National Park.
